Changing a target name

Question

When I trace to a target (usually by entering an IP address), it shows up with a name that isn't very helpful. Is there any way to change that?

Solution

Yup. There are several possibilities here.

  1. When entering the target IP address, add an 'alias' after the IP address. We talk about this more in this knowledge base article.
  2. If you're using PingPlotter Pro, we have an extension that will let you rename any hop or target. You can get that extension here.
